Canadian Healthcare Construction Course

Gordon D. Burrill, P.Eng., SASHE

Gordon is President of Teegor Consulting Inc., a consulting firm specializing in healthcare engineering and construction. He spent 13 years as a design engineer, followed by 7 years as the Director of the Engineering for a New Brunswick Health Authority before branching out to Teegor Consulting Inc. in August of 2004. He is a Registered Professional Engineer with 20 years experience in the design, construction and maintenance of healthcare facilities and is a faculty member for the Healthcare Construction Certificate of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering. He is member of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, the National Fire Protection Association’s Health Care Section, a former Council Member of the International Federation for Hospital Engineers and a Past President of the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society. Gordon is an active member on a number of CSA committees where he is vice-chair of the Technical Committee for Health Care Facility Engineering and Physical Plant and several Technical Sub Committees.

Tim Adams, CHFM, SASHE
Director, Member Professional Development
American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE)

Tim Adams is the Director of Member Professional Development with the American Society for Healthcare Engineering working in the areas of advocacy, code and standard compliance and education. Prior to joining the ASHE Staff, Tim spent over 20 years working in hospitals in the areas of Clinical Engineering and Facilities Management. He is also a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control, and is a faculty member for the ASHE Healthcare Construction Certificate Program and the ASHE Infection Control Seminar. He is a Past President of the Indiana Society for Healthcare Engineering (ISHE) and the Indiana Biomedical Society (IBS).

Tim is a Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) and a Senior ASHE Member (SASHE).

George Pankiw, P.Eng., CHFM

Director, Facilities Planning & Redevelopment

George graduated from Royal Military College of Canada with a Civil Engineering degree. He spent twenty years in the Canadian Forces as a Military Engineer. George was also the Facilities Manager at the Metro Toronto Zoo, one of the world’s largest zoos.

 

George began his healthcare experience as the Director of Facilities with the Perth & Smiths Falls District Hospital in Perth, Ontario.  He then moved on to become the Corporate Manager Engineering Services with Grey Bruce Health Services in Owen Sound, Ontario.   Presently George is the Director Facilities Planning & Redevelopment for the Brant Community Healthcare System, Brantford, Ontario.

 

He is a registered Professional Engineer, and holds the Certified Healthcare Facility Manager designation from the AHA, the only Canadian to do so. He has been actively involved in both CHES and ASHE for the past 6 years including:

    CHES - Chair Medical Gas Course Revision Sub-Committee

    CSA – CHES Rep to CSA Technical Sub-Committee on Medical Gases Systems

    ASHE - NFPA 99 Gas Distribution workgroup Revision Committee

 

Michael Hickey

Mike Hickey is currently working in his 30th year in the facilities management side of healthcare. Twenty years have been in St. John’s NL, his city of birth, while the last 10 years have been in Prince George. Prior to moving to northern BC, Mike served as an Assistant Director of Facilities Management with the Healthcare Corporation of St. John’s and has worked in both acute care and long term care. Mike’s background is in Power Engineering. He has also completed the management programs of Modern Management, Quality Management for Healthcare Professionals, Health Services Management, and Long Term Care Senior management (academic excellence award) through the Canadian Healthcare Association. He has represented BC on the National Energy Efficiency Advisory committee with the Canadian College of Health Service Executives, and held membership on the CHA National Advisory Committee for Management programs across Canada. He has also served as an Education Consultant with CHA for the Modern Management program. He is currently past President of the BC Chapter of the Canadian Healthcare Engineering Society, as well as Vice-President of CHES National.
